Where we stand - Class 2A Softball - April 22
There are just two area teams who are playing small-school softball this season in Kansas, and both teams have had their share of struggles.
Whether it has been battling with Mother Nature or execution on the field, both Stanton County (3-5) and Elkhart (1-11) are just glad to be playing this spring, after its 2020 season was taken away courtesy of the COVID-19 pandemic.
It has included some highlights so far for both teams. Stanton County scored 20 or more runs in their season-opening doubleheader against Class 3A Lakin, and also took a game off of Southwestern Heights. They've also have had to face some of the better 3A teams in the region, including Cimarron and Colby. The schedule has not been kind to the Lady Trojans, however, that may help prepare them to cause some havoc in the postseason.
The lone win for Elkhart actually broke a 10-game losing streak in their most recent action, a doubleheader split with Lakin.
