Week 9 FB - Dodge City, Colby stay unbeaten
The thinning of the herd has commenced in Kansas High School Football.
After the Bi-District round has finished, Southwestern Kansas has just 10 teams remaining in the playoffs, and two of them will play each other next weekend in the 6-man playoffs - two-time defending champion Weskan plays at unbeaten Moscow.
Here are the finals from Friday's action:
Dodge City 34, Haysville-Campus 13
After a sluggish start, the Red Demons rolled and held Campus to just 66 total yards in the second half as Dodge City won their 6A West playoff opener at Memorial Stadium on Friday.
Alden Knedler, who finished with 174 yards rushing, and Beau Foster, who added 150 yards rushing, each scored twice for Dodge City (9-0), who will host Junction City (7-2) next week. The Red Demons finished with 418 yards of total offense.
Scott City 35, Holcomb 18
Hunter Yeager rushed for 174 yards and scored two touchdowns, including a 44-yard run that sealed the win for the Beavers over the Longhorns in Scott City.
Scott City (7-2) held a 21-6 lead at the half, but Holcomb (4-5) scored a pair of touchdowns - on a 74-yard scoring strike from Cody Johnson to Edgar Ramirez, and a 3-yard Johnson connection to Trey Cox, which followed a blocked punt, to pull within 21-18 with 11:55 remaining in regulation.
But Parker Gooden - who was 8-of-12 passing for 104 yards, and added 78 yards rushing - capped off a long drive with a 5-yard dash to push the lead back to 28-18, followed by a Yeager 44-yard TD to finish the scoring.
Scott City will host Concordia next weekend.
