Weather becomes challenge at State Track Meet

It looks like Mother Nature is doing its best to hold up state events this weekend, with the KSHSAA State Track and Field Championships the first such event to get directly impacted by the weather.

Storms rolling through Wichita have suspended the event, which was scheduled to start at 8 am at Cessna Stadium, on the campus of Wichita State University.

The Classes 5A and 6A Field events were scheduled to begin at 8 am, but lightning and moderate rain is putting those on hold. According to the KSHSAA website, the next update is scheduled to come down at 10 am.

In a Tweet this morning, KSHSAA said, "We plan on competing today."

Updates on the status of State Track today can be found on the web here as well as by following KSHSAA on Twitter at @KSHSAA.

A number of area athletes from Dodge City, Garden City and Elkhart are scheduled to compete at the meet in the 6A Boys and Girls State Track and Field Championships.

The Boys teams for Liberal, Garden City and Dodge City finished 3-4-5 at the regional meet in Garden City last weekend. The Dodge City girls won the regional meet, outpointing Garden City for the crown. The Liberal Lady Reds finished 5th.
