Streaks on the line tonight

Two Southwest Kansas football squads will look to end losing streaks tonight, while another will look to continue its winning ways as Week 2 of the High School Football season commences for area teams tonight.

Sublette, who owns the second-longest losing streak in the state at 33 games, will have to try and break through into the win column on the road tonight at Ellinwood. The Lakrs lost last week to Oakley, 31-6, while the Class 2A Eagles, from the Central Plains League, look for their first win of the season as well, dropping their opener to La Crosse, 63-19.

Deerfield would love to end their 27-game losing skid tonight, but will have to do it on the road at Cummingham. The Spartans lost to defending 6-man state runners-up, Golden Plains in their opener, 60-6, while the Wildcats dropped a 58-6 decision at home to Moscow.

Speaking of 6-man teams, defending state champion Weskan will look to keep their 7-game win streak in effect tonight when they play at Pawnee Heights, who finished 3rd at state last season. The Coyotes ran past Rolla, 72-31, while the Tigers took down Western Plains, 54-6, in Week 1.
