Stanton County teams top final KCCCA Poll

In the final Kansas Cross Country Coaches Association coaches' poll for this fall season, the Class 2A polls each have a Southwestern Kansas team at the top of the heap.

And that's the same spot the Stanton County cross country teams hope to occupy on the podium come Saturday at Wamego Country Club.

The Trojan boys and girls teams were both named the No. 1 teams in Class 2A according to the fourth and final coaches poll of the 2019 season on Monday. It's the first time that the two teams have both been at the top spot this season.

After winning the Great Bend Class 2A Regional meet last weekend, it was not surprising for both teams to earn such high accolades. Both teams have depth to their units, and while each team has a runner to keep an eye on - namely Isaiah Barrera and Chesney Peterson - it's the consistency of their unit which makes them one of the favorites to win the state meet on Saturday.

They were not the only team qualifiers from the area to get recognized in the rankings. In Class 3A, both the No. 4 Southwestern Heights girls and the sevent-ranked Lakin boys ended the season in the Top 7 in their respective classes. Scott Community's boys and girls, and Holcomb's boys teams also received votes.

Both Wallace County teams received votes in the Class 1A polls, while the Meade girls and Greeley County boys also earned votes.
