Scott City stays on Kpreps poll; Elkhart now opens eyes
The number of teams who are at least being considered for the Kpreps High School Football polls each week has grown by one this week, from the usual six to now seven teams.
Scott City stays in the Class 3A rankings, and remains the only team from Southwestern Kansas to be ranked. The Beavers, who have not allowed a touchdown on defense for the first five games, stayed at No. 5 in the poll, a spot they have occupied since the preseason poll was released in August.
Elkhart becomes one of those teams getting noticed for their play, as their 4-1 mark (with that lone loss at Cimarron in the opener) has them among the "Others considered" for the Class 1A poll. They join other area teams who are considered in their respective classes - Dodge City in Class 6A, Colby in Class 3A, Cimarron and Lakin in Class 2A, and Wichita County in 8-man Division I.
Things will shake out a bit in the rankings this week, as area teams face strong tests. Wichita County has a collision with 8-Man DI No. 2 St. Francis, Lakin plays a big district contest at Cimarron, while Scott City will get a strong test from Beloit.
