NOTE: This is the final of the three playoff previews involving high school football teams in Southwestern Kansas. 6-man (Wild West Bowl) Preview

8-man Division I Preview

No. 4 Cheney (8-2) at Scott City (8-2)

Kickoff: 6 pm

The Class 3A football season has included a lot of surprises and unpredictability. However, a team that is used to making deep playoff runs has a chance at another one on Friday, when Scott City plays host to Cheney.

Cheney has made it to the quarterfinals for the second time in three years. Scott City, meanwhile, have posted back-to-back playoff wins and also recorded its fifth shutout of the season in last week’s 28-0 blanking of Concordia.

Hunter Yeager scored a pair of touchdowns, while Parker Gooden tossed a TD pass and scrambled for a TD run as the Beavers used their running game and strong defense to advance to their third straight quarterfinal round. Scott City held Concordia to just 39 total yards of offense and three first downs, while the Beavers rolled up 353 yards of offense and moved the chains 18 times in the win.

Cale Goodman scored the first of two 4th-Quarter scores for the Beavers, who enter Friday with a 52-10 playoff mark.
