Meade edges Quinter for 1A Boys CC repeat
It was a close battle, as anticipated, but the Meade Buffaloes did what some thought they would do on Saturday in Victoria - defend their KSHSAA Class 1A Boys Cross Country team title.
The Buffaloes outscored Quinter by a mere nine points to win the team title, and those two teams showed why many figured the would duel for the crown on the Sand Plum Nature Course.
Meade scored just 31 points by placing all four scoring runners in the Top 13 in the team races. Quinter had all four of their scoring runners in the Top 17 to score 40 points, easily outdistancing third place Classical Academy of Wichita by 56 points.
Keith Logan paced Meade's scoring effort by placing fifth individually, but the top finisher among the runners in the team race. Jobjosiah Muthiani was 17th overall, but 7th in the team race, while Brock Keith (21st/10th) and Anthony Godfrey (25th/13th) also outscored their Quinter counterparts.
Kody Henson, Orvin Dyck and Walker Koons also ran in the meet for the Buffaloes.
it may have been the inspiration of a member of last season's state title run that helped the Buffaloes achieve this feat. In the crowd was sophomore Trent Roberts, who as a freshman led Meade to a state title. Roberts suffered a severe spinal cord injury during the summer and had not watched the team until this weekend.
In the Class 1A Girls meet, Quinter beat out Doniphan West and Pretty Prairie for the team title, while Meade placed 8th in the team standings.
Maya Doney finished 6th overall for the Lady Buffaloes, 4th in the team race. Haley Thompson, Kyra Shewey and Karsen Jones were the other runners for Meade in the meet.
