KBCA Rankings - Eagles soar to No. 1 in 3A Boys
The Hugoton boys basketball team has made like their mascot and soared to the top of the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association Class 3A Boys Basketball poll.
The Eagles (8-0) have made the ascent from a pre-season ranking of No. 8 to their current ranking, and in their first game after being named No. 1 on Tuesday, ran past Kingman, 72-34, in their opener at the Sterling Tournament.
They also join Meade - who has only spent one week out of the Class 1A Boys poll - as the only area boys basketball teams to earn a ranking this season. The Buffaloes (8-1) also won on Tuesday, racing past Elkhart, 70-49, in their first round game in the Hi-Plains League Tournament.
Three area girls basketball teams also appear in the polls - Class 6A No. 2 Liberal, Class 3A No. 3 Colby and Class 3A No. 4 Scott Community.
