KBCA Rankings - Dodge City, Stanton County in girls polls
Updated: Dec 17, 2019
After the first week-plus of action on the High School Basketball courts in Southwestern Kansas, a handful of teams are now getting some much-deserved recognition in the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association High School Basketball polls, released on Monday.
Two teams jumped into their respective Top 10 rankings with great starts. The Dodge City girls are off to a 3-0 start, and debut at No. 10 in the Class 6A poll, while the Stanton County Lady Trojans used a strong week of action at the Border Wars tournament in Syracuse to jump into the No. 8 spot in the Class 2A poll.
Scott Community, meanwhile, continues to hold onto the No. 5 position in Class 3A. Helping solidify their hold on the spot was a strong 61-52 win at Class 6A Garden City on Saturday, as well as a win over Colorado Class 5A Coronado.
Liberal, meanwhile, remains the highest rated team from the area, as the Lady Redskins are the No. 2 team in Class 6A. If all holds, the Western Athletic Conference opener with Dodge City on Friday will be a battle of Top 10 unbeatens.
No new area teams appear in the boys' hoops polls, but Meade, who suffered a setback at the Cimarron Bluejay Classic, fell to No. 10 in the Class 1A rankings, down from their preseason spot at No. 5, which they also held last week,
Hugoton, meanwhile, is off to a 3-0 start and enters GWAC play this week as the No. 5 boys team in Class 3A. The Eagles opened the campaign at No. 8, then moved up three spots in last two polls.
