K-Preps FB Rankings: Indians back in 8M-I Poll

After dropping out last week from the K-Preps Kansas High School Football rankings last week, the boys from Leoti have found their way back into the poll this week.

Just announced earlier today, Wichita County - coming off of a trip to the 8-Man Division I championship game last year and a semifinal appearance a year prior - is back in after handing a 62-28 loss to then-No. 4 Hill City.

In the preseason Top 5, the Indians are currently back in at No. 5. Four unbeaten teams in the classification are ahead of them in the polls - top-ranked Canton-Galva, Madison, Little River and Wakeeney-Trego - who handed the Indians a 76-28 defeat in Week 2. The three opponents so far for the Indians have a combined 7-2 record.

It should be noted that seven unbeaten teams did not make the cut, and there are 11 unbeatens in the state in 8-man Division I.

In the other classifications, a handful of teams are getting noticed, including a pair of 6A teams from Southwest Kansas.

Dodge City (3-0) is one of seven unbeatens, and used their Wing-T attack to close out Wichita South on Friday night and stay unbeaten. Meanwhile, Garden City (2-1) routed Wichita West at home, 49-0. Both earn mention in this week's 6A poll.

Holcomb and Scott Community, both at 2-1, get mentions in the Class 3A poll. Scott City lost to Cimarron, 26-20, and Holcomb took care of Southwestern Heights, 47-7. The Bluejays were mentioned in the Class 2A poll after their big win.
