Hugoton girls debut in KBCA Top 10 poll
There was a little movement among the schools in Southwestern Kansas who are in the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association Top 10 rankings, but one school switched ranked teams, growing the number of area teams ranked to three in one of the girls basketball classifications.
Hugoton lost one team and gained another in the Class 3A polls. The Eagle boys entered the week ranked No. 1, but ended the week taking their first two losses of the season and falling totally out of the Top 10. The Lady Eagles, however, used a strong performance at the Sterling Tournament to vault themselves into the Top 10 for the first time this season.
The Hugoton girls join No. 3 Scott Community and No. 6 Colby as teams from the Great Western Activities Conference ranked in the polls.
Liberal, meanwhile, coming off a win at the Salida Invitational Tournament, held onto its position in Class 6A, as the second-best team in the state, behind Topeka High.
Meade is now the lone boys' team ranked in the polls, as they are No. 9 in Class 1A.
