Girls BB: Weathers eclipses 1,000 point mark in SCHS win

Emily Weathers scored 14 points, including hitting a jumper in the second quarter to reach the 1,000-point mark for her career, as Class 3A No. 5 Scott Community jumped out to a lead and did not look back in handling Ulysses, 63-37, on Tuesday at the Scott Community Events Center.


Jacy Rose led Scott Community (6-2 GWAC, 16-2 overall) with 15 points, while Brynn McCormick added 12 and Lyndi Rumford 10 for the Beavers, who stayed in 2nd in the Cimarron Sub-State standings.


Weathers now has scored 1,005 career points.


Ulysses fell to 0-8 in the Great West Athletic Conference and 1-17 overall.


In other finals from Tuesday's action:

Class 3A No. 8 Colby 43, Goodland 29

The Lady Eagles used a 16-3 advantage in the final eight minutes to pull away for a win over the Cowgirls in GWAC play.


Brooklyn Jones poured in a season-high 16 points to pace Colby (15-3, 6-2 GWAC), who has won the last eight contests against Goodland (8-10, 2-6). Emma Lehman led the Cowgirls with nine points.


Class 3A No. 9 Hugoton 66, Holcomb 43

The Lady Eagles maintained their lead in the GWAC, and kept pace with both Scott Community and Colby in the Cimarron Sub-State, by outscoring the Lady Horns 30-16 in the second half to take a close game and turn it into a convincing win at Hugoton.


The usual trio led the way for Hugoton (13-4, 7-1 GWAC) - Mikyn Hamiln scored a game-high 21 points, Gianna Vos added 12 and McKenna Hamiln tossed in 10 points for the Lady Eagles.


Holcomb (6-12 overall) was led by Maddy Ruda's 13 points.


Lakin 50, Elkhart 39

The Broncs used a 21-9 scoring run in the first quarter to help spur a win over the Lady Wildcats, who had an 11-game win streak come to a end. Lakin (10-8) held a 33-16 edge at halftime over Elkhart (15-4).


Dodge City 46, Garden City 20

The Lady Demons shut out the Buffaloes in the second quarter, keying a big Western Athletic Conference road win for Dodge City.


After a 12-6 edge after the first eight minutes, Dodge City (14-4, 4-2 WAC) went on a 14-0 run in the second quarter to hold a 26-6 edge at the half. The Lady Demons held the Buffaloes to just 2-of-17 from the floor in the first half, and to just 7-of-33 field-goal attempts (21.2 percent) for the game. Dodge shot 51.5 percent for the game, going 17-of-33 from the field.


Camree Johnson scored 19 points, while Kisa Unruh added 12 for Dodge City. Amaya Gallegos led Garden City with six points.
