GC gets #1 Seed in 6A Sub-State

The top team in the Wichita-Southeast Sub-State most of 2019 earned the No. 1 seed for Saturday's Sub-State Volleyball Playoffs, and will get to host one of four regions with a berth to the Class 6A State Volleyball Tournament on the line.

Garden City, who is 30-3 on the season, earned that top seed when seeding was announced on Monday. They found out over the weekend that they would be a Top-4 seed and host one of the regional pods to determine the entrants into the KSHSAA State Volleyball Championships on Nov. 1-2.

Garden City will play in the second match of the day, playing the winner of the play-in game, which features Topeka High against Haysville-Campus. The other semifinal will have Wichita-Southeast and Manhattan - two teams the Buffaloes have already beaten this season.

The Class 4A, 5A and 6A Sub-States are set up the same way - two Sub-States, which each have four regional groupings hosting a single-elimination tournament. The winners will move on to the state tournaments - The Class 5A and 6A tournaments will be held at the Tony's Pizza Center in Salina, while the Class 4A tournament will be hosted by Hutchinson Community College.

Dodge City earns the No. 10 seed and will play Junction City in their semifinal match, which will be at Topeka-Washburn Rural. The hosts will play the winner of the Wichita-South/Wichita-West match in the other semifinal.

Liberal earned the No. 11 seed and will play Hutchinson at Derby. The hosts get Wichita-Heights in the other semifinal.

In Class 4A, Ulysses will be involved in a play-in match against Clay Center Community, in the Towanda-Circle Sub-State grouping at Towanda-Circle. The winner of the Ulysses-Clay Center Community match gets the hosts, while the other match in the semifinal will be Buhler taking on El Dorado.

The Class 3A, Class 2A and Class 1A Sub-State seedings and brackets will be announced on Wednesday.
