Garden City claims 6A Girls Golf Regional in style

To accurately describe just how overwhelming the Garden City Girls Golf team preformed on Monday at the Class 6A Wichita-Southeast Regional at MacDonald Golf Course, there is only one word that comes to mind.

Dominate.

The Buffaloes stampeded the competition, taking the top two places individually, three of the top four and four of the top six to outdistance Derby by 66 shots. Dodge City finished in third, and will join their WAC rivals at the Class 6A State Golf Championships, at the Hutchinson-Carey Park course next Monday and Tuesday.

Adding to the emphasis of the domination, Garden City's fifth golfer, Emma Kellis, finished 10th individually, making it half of the Top 10 that wears brown and gold.

Alyssa McMillen held off teammate Grace Yi by five shots to claim individual medalist honors. Ryann Warren finished fourth individually, while Rian Lineberger was sixth.

Dodge City's top two golfers, Ashtyn Armstrong and Tiley Fry, finished 11th and 12th, respectively.

Liberal finished fourth in the team chase and missed out on a team trip to state, but did qualify two individuals for the state tournament - Maci Reeves and Katie Horyna, the final two individuals not on a qualifying team to earn a berth.

Zoey Lee of Wichita-East, Reaghan Martin of Hutchinson and Sophie Martins of Haysville Campus were the other individuals who qualified for state.
