FB Rankings Report - Oct. 21
Thanks to surviving one upset bid, and a successful extra-time win, and some other results throughout the state, two of the three statewide high school football polls in the Sunshine State went through some shaking up over the weekend.
As a result, there are changes to all three polls involving teams from Southwestern Kansas. Below is a summary of the new rankings per publication.
Catch it Kansas Top 10s go through shakeup
Of the three polls, the Catch it Kansas Top 10 polls went through the most change, with two teams sliding around in the Top 10 of their respective classes, and two teams hopping into the Top 10.
In Class 6A, Dodge City's 17-7 win over Garden City kept them right where they were last week in the Top 10, at No. 8. The Red Demons have another rivalry game on Friday, when they host Liberal at Memorial Stadium.
Colby moves up in the Class 3A poll, moving up from 9th to 5th after their 28-20 double overtime win over Scott City. The Eagles also have a rivalry game coming up Friday, when they head to Goodland.
In Class 2A, Cimarron, despite winning comfortably, moves down from 5th to 7th, while Lakin holds onto their No. 10 spot after surviving a road test at Sterling, 18-13.
Elkhart hops into the Class 1A rankings after winning their sixth straight and clinching the District 8 crown with a 49-8 win over Stanton County. The Wildcats get a bye this week as they get ready for the postseason.
The boys from Leoti, meanwhile, make their absence from the Top 10 a temporary one. One week after falling out following their loss at St. Francis, the Wichita County Indians rolled to a mercy-rule win, and will look to secure the second seed in their district this week.
Kpreps gets Colby into Top 5
The Kpreps poll has been the steadiest of the bunch this season, but for the first time in 2019, Colby has entered the Top 5 in Class 3A. Scott City held the No. 5 ranking until last week's poll came out. The beavers have lost two in a row, but are still in the "Others Considered" category.
Joining Scott City in that category again this week are Dodge City (6A), Cimarron (2A), Lakin, (2A), Elkhart (1A) and Wichita County (8-man DI).
Colby joins Best of Kansas 3A Top 5, Dodge moves up in Super 10
The Best of Kansas football polls have some movement, namely the debut of Colby into the Class 3A Top 5.
The polls, put out by the Topeka Capital-Journal, also have Dodge City making a move in both the 6A Top 5 (up to No. 4) and Super 10 (up a notch to No. 7).
The rest of the teams who were in the "Others Considered" category remained there this week - Scott City (Class 3A), Cimarron (2A), Lakin (2A), Elkhart (1A) and Wichita County (8-man DI).
