FB playoff brackets released
The Kansas State High School Activities Association has announced the 2019 State Football Championships brackets for all classes, except 6-man, which will be released later on Saturday.
Full state football brackets can be found here.
Only two teams from Southwestern Kansas will not be in the brackets - Goodland (1-7) and Greeley County (0-8). Goodland will play a Cross-District game at Kingman, while Greeley County is scheduled to play at Wilson, however we will await an announcement as to if that game will be played.
Class 6A
Dodge City (8-0) earned the No. 2 seed out of the West side of the bracket, and will host Haysville-Campus (1-7) in an opening round contest, which KSHSAA refers to as Week 9. Garden City (2-6) heads to Topeka High (7-1) in another Week 9 contest in the West.
Class 5A
Liberal (2-6) will also be on the road, as the Redskins play at Maize (7-1) on Friday.
Class 4A
Ulysses (5-3), winners of their final two games of the season, will be at home for their Week 9 contest against Arkansas City (2-6).
Class 3A With the craziness of Districts 7 and 8, everyone wondered how things would shake out. Here's what we have - Concordia (4-4) will play at Hugoton (4-4), Holcomb (4-4) plays at Scott City (6-2), and Nickerson (4-4) travels to Colby (8-0).
Class 2A
All three area teams from District 7 made the playoffs. Cimarron (8-0) will host Minneapolis (4-4), while Lakin (7-1) tangles with Ellsworth (5-3). Southwestern Heights (4-4) takes to the road and plays at Hoisington (8-0).
Class 1A
With all 31 teams making the bracket, this does have a Week 9 feel to it. Meade (2-6) heads to Syracuse (1-6), with the winner getting District 7 winner Sedgwick (8-0) in the regionals. Sublette (1-7) takes their spread attack into Elkhart (6-1) and attempts to slow down the Wildcats' run game. The winner of that game will face the winner of Stanton County (1-7) at Inman (4-4).
8-man Division I
Wichita County (7-1) will host Victoria (6-2) on Thursday night in Leoti.
8-man Division II
Wallace County (2-6) will travel to Osborne (8-0) on Thursday for their Week 9 matchup.
6-man
To the best of our knowledge, this is what the 6-man bracket is likely to look like. Only two teams from Southwestern Kansas (or the teams we cover) made the six-team field. One is the defending 6-man state champions, Weskan (5-3), who would host Ashland (6-2), with the winner playing at Moscow (8-0) on Nov. 8. The other side of the bracket has Natona (5-3) at Pawnee Heights (5-3), with the winner facing North champ Cheylin (8-0).
We will have the updated information as soon as we get the official bracket.
