Dodge City, Ulysses leads boys contingent to State Wrestling
Nearly 60 boys wrestlers from Southwestern Kansas will get ready to close out their 2019-20 season this weekend at the state tournaments throughout the state.
The Class 6A State Wrestling Championships will feature 27 area grapplers, with Dodge City - who finished as the runner-up at the West Regional to Wahsburn-Rural - sending the most, with 11 wrestlers. Garden City will send nine to state, while Liberal advances seven wrestlers to the tournament at Hartman Arena in Park City.
The Class 4A State Wrestling Tournament, at the Tony's Pizza Events Center in Salina, will feature 24 area wrestlers. Ulysses will send the most to the 4A tournament with eight, with Scott Community (7), Colby (6) and Hugoton (2) also send multiple wrestlers.
The Class 3-2-1A Tournament will include six area wrestlers, with Goodland sending three grapplers to Gross Memorial Coliseum, at Fort Hays State University. Cimarron, Lakin and Wichita County will also be represented.
Nearly 70 wrestlers - including the 11 girls who qualified earlier this month - will compete for state titles this weekend. The All-Class Girls State Wrestling Tournament will take place on Thursday at Tony's Pizza Events Center in Salina.
