Boys Hoops: Greeley County shuts down Deerfield
The Greeley County boys basketball team turned up the heat on defense on Friday against Deerfield, and in the process, picked up a much-needed win.
The Jackrabbits held the Spartans to just six points in the second half on their way to a 57-28 win. It was the second loss in three games for Deerfield (15-4), while Greeley County, who held a 31-22 lead at halftime, moves to 10-8 on the season.
In other boys basketball action on Friday:
Hugoton 71, Goodland 47
Hayden Duharsh and Sawyer Harper scored 16 points each as Hugoton (13-3) pulled away in the second half in a win over Goodland. Brennan Brumbaugh scored 15 points for the Cowboys (2-15).
Colby 51, Scott Community 46
Calvin Stapp led three Eagles in double figures with 15 points as Colby picked up a key win in the GWAC and Cimarron Sub-State over Scott Community. Hunter Vaughn scored 13 points, while Peyton Wahlmeier added 10 for the Eagles (11-6), while the Beavers (8-9) were led by Hunter Yager's 12 points.
South Gray 72, Southwestern Heights 57
Bryan Olvera scored 13 points, while Gabriel Arellano added 11 for the Mustangs, but South Gray used an 18-6 first-quarter run, and four players in double figures, to take home the win.
Ulysses 61, Holcomb 58
Jackson Stoppell had another big night with 24 points, but the Tigers won a nip-and-tuck contest with the Longhorns.
