Boys BB - Elkhart bounces back, Meade rolls to 2-0
In the final game of the night at Barney Akers Gymnasium in Syracuse at the 2019 Border War, the Elkhart Wildcats turned their first contest with the McClave Cardinals at the event into a track meet.
Lance Addington led four Wildcats in double figures with 17 points as Elkhart used a 33-21 third-quarter spurt to lock down an 84-58 win on Tuesday.
After taking a 19-10 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Cardinals crawled back into the game with a 20-18 edge in the second stanza, cutting the deficit to 37-30 at the halftime break.
In the third 8-minute stanza, however, the Wildcats scored 33 of the 54 points tallied, as their high-pressure full-court press and their breakout ability on the fast break overwhelmed the Cardinals, who only dressed out eight players for the game.
Manny Moreno added 12 points, Jaxon Hastings 11 and Oakley Hastings 10 for Elkhart, who bounced back from a 86-59 loss to Class 1A No. 5 Meade in their opener to even their record at 1-1.
Aiden Martinez scored a game-high 19 points for McClave, who fell to 0-2 on the season.
