8-man All-Star FB Game now cancelled
It seemed inevitable, but another high school sports staple on the summer calendar won't happen in 2020.
The Kansas 8-man All-Star Games were cancelled on Monday due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The games were scheduled to take place June 13 in Beloit.
"Due to Covid 19 in the best interest of Public Safety, the Mitchell County Health Board and the Kansas 8 Man All Star Game Committee has officially cancelled the 2020 All Star games," said 8-man All-Star Committee Chairman David Dubbert in a statement on Monday. "The plan is to resume the games in 2021."
The decision was made with the best interests and safety of the players in mind, according to Kansas Eight-Man Football Association President Vestal Teeter, who coaches at Ingalls.
"I am very sad for all the young men that have worked so hard to earn a chance to play in the game, and we wish them all the best as they pursue their future endeavors," added Teeter.
Aron Castillo of Wichita County was among the players selected for the Division I game to represent the West squad. Indians' Head Coach Brandt Douglas was to serve as one of the team's coaches. Houston Friend of Satanta was the lone are selection on the Division II West squad.
