2019 Football Preview - Liberal

Liberal

2018 Record: 1-9. Lost to Maize in opening round of 6A playoffs.

The Redskins would like to open the season the same way they did in 2018, with a victory over Guymon, Oklahoma. If they can do that, it would snap a 9-game losing skid.

Liberal returns their signalcaller, bookend lineman and a pair of receivers to the fold for 2019. Quarterback Syris Dunlap – who led all returnees in total tackles on defense – will have fellow lettermen Malcolm Wiltshire and Hunter Hatcher to throw to downfield, while left tackle Israel Avalos and right tackle Sergio Chavez will anchor the offensive line.

The defense also has three contributors returning. Braxton Hyde leads all returnees with three interceptions grabbed last season, while the Redskins will look to Santonio Turner and Lee Hatcher to put pressure on the opposing quarterbacks.

Liberal will take on Hays in their first Western Athletic Conference contest of the season at home on September 20. The Redskins will have to close out the season on the road, with games at Wichita-East, Great Bend and Dodge City.
